How Long Does Vape Juice Last?

December 2nd, 2020

If you have been vaping for an old-time, you must have a collection of vapes or e-liquids on your shelf. Surely you vape them in due course. However, you could sometimes be against the clock to get them finished. You sometimes even to ignore the losses you might not give attention to the expiry date, and consume it. But is it right? Do we need to consume the expired vape juice or e-liquid? Let us study that.

Does Vape Juice Expire?

The majority of the e-liquids and vape juice have printed expiration date similarly like food products and other utilities have a date printed along with a tag like 'use by,' 'expired by,' or 'best before.' However, there is no federal law associated with these dates.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) itself states that the information on the products is entirely at the discretion of the manufacturer. However, the FDA clearly mentions that the consumables items must be 'wholesome and fit for consumption.' In simplest terms, if any edible product is not safe to consume, it is subjected to the FDA's strict action regardless of the date printed on the label.

Brands voluntarily add expiration dates on the packaging of their goods under the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) guidelines. It says that these mentioned dates are an indicator of a product's quality, rather than it's safety.

Does Vape Juice Expire

E-liquid and vape juice expiration dates slightly differ from fresh food dates due to e-liquid shelf-stability. Most importantly, it means that the product is less possibly to react with its environment and surely has a longer life. Under FSIS guidelines, shelf-stable products must be printed with a month and a year. So the bottle of vape juice or e-liquid might expire in October 2020, while a carton of eggs or frozen meat will expire on 07/08/2020.

How Long Before Vape Juice Goes Bad?

As we mentioned, e-liquid is shelf-stable, so it takes a longer duration to go bad. However, shelf life varies from e-liquid to e-liquid, and it will also vary as per how long it is stored. In general, vape juice can be expected to last between 1 and 2 years if it is stored properly. The expiration date estimates the duration of vape juice lasts under normal conditions; however, the quality of your e-liquid may diminish over time. It also suggests that even your purchased e-liquid if under the expiration date, it is not as good in quality as it was when you bought. Shelf life is primarily based on the lifespan of the e-liquid component parts, such as-

  • Nicotine potency will diminish.
  • The quality of e-liquid decreases over time.
  • The flavor may fade more quickly.
  • Texture and 'mouth-feel' may also feel different.

All those pined out points do not necessarily prompt the old e-liquid or vape juice to be safe. The most common 3 ingredients in vape juice or e-liquid are propylene glycol (PG), nicotine, and vegetable glycerin (VG), which typically have a shelf life of around 2 years.

However, a specific condition applied to this expiration date is that if these products are exposed to extreme heat or direct sunlight, these components can chemically react and quickly break down. Alongside this, flavorings are the other major component in the majority of e-liquids or vape juice. The shelf life of flavors of the juice varies quite remarkable also has a huge impact on the e-liquid quality.

The most important thing to recognize while purchasing or storing e-liquid or vape juice is that an e-liquid that has used a natural compound for flavor, then that juice will quickly spoil than other artificial flavoring e-liquids. The e-liquid that is produced by using more artificial flavors will probably have a longer life. The shelf life of the e-liquid is also affected by the quality of the ingredients it has used while producing. Even the evidence suggest that cheaper e-liquids are possibly spoils more quickly.
